I felt so bad for Mike. Here he thought a pretty girl was actually interested in him, and it turned out she was just using him.

Everything makes a lot more sense. Why Mike has constantly let people take advantage of him - like that asshole Trevor.  I noticed in that scene with Trevor, after he found out that Trevor snaked Jenny, he was like “whatever, the other girl’s hot anyway.” His IQ is greater than that of all of his friends combined, but he lets them walk all over them because he doesn’t think he’s better than being a bike messenger, or that he’s capable of more than getting high all the time, or that a pretty girl could really like him for him.

The one true thing about himself that he could tell to the girls was, “I love my grandma.” And it’s so telling, isn’t it?  He would do anything for her.  Grammy kind of defines Mike’s existence.  He takes tests, when he’s as scared as fuck of getting caught, he even tries to deal drugs for money.  If it weren’t for Grammy, Mike would never have gotten a job at PH.  If it weren’t for Grammy, Mike would probably have spent his childhood shuffled between foster parent families. 

All he has to cling on to now is his oldest friend Trevor, who is a horrible influence and arguably a terrible person, and Grammy. When his date fails, he goes straight to Grammy. The one person who truly loves him. 

Mike Ross has had a life filled with hard knocks.  When his parents died, he just had his Grammy.  He grew up in one of the toughest cities in the world, where people took advantage of his kindness, sweetness and smarts constantly, and he let them, because a shitty friendship was better, in his mind, than none at all.  He’s always known that he was smart, he’s always had his mind.  But I think that Mike Ross lost his self-respect doing LSATS for other people, and hanging out with Trevor.  And then he started learning, somehow, that being a bike messenger and getting stoned was the best he could do.  Mike, the little boy whose mother would tuck him in every night and read Curious George to him.  I just want to protect him from the world that has proven to be cruel to him, over and over again.  And yet, he’s still the little puppy who wants people to love him, who cares so much about others. He’s been orphaned, neglected, used by others for their own personal gains.  And yet, he still cares, even though he has been treated so badly. He may be becoming more and more like Harvey, who believes that caring is not an advantage, but he’s still Mike. The Mike who lost the mock trial because he didn’t want to hurt Rachel. The Mike who was Donna’s “prince among men”.  The Mike who felt real empathy for Stan and did everything he could to save him.  The Mike who is incredibly loyal and will do anything to save Harvey. Who held a certain integrity about him.  Who would cross lines for his Grandma, but always implicitly knew that there were some lines he would never cross.  A true gentleman with a moral code, even when he was a scruffy raggedy puppy who really needed someone to love him back. 

Mike Ross, always, a prince among men.
